Lumina - Legende of Ingong

Mezzo-soprano, acoustic/electric guitar, and descant zither

This piece is based on a mythological, archaic myth set in my fantasy world "Lumina." I originally created this world in my childhood, and today I am working with a team to further develop it. The story provides space for political themes and explores the significance of myths in our modern society.

A unique feature of this piece is the so-called comic score – a notation that allows the work to be read both as a comic and interpreted as a graphic score.

Another central element is the use of pop-up book mechanisms, which were incorporated to tackle the unique challenge of combining imagery and traditionally composed music simultaneously.

The story tells the legend of the "War of Unification." Once, the island that would later be known as Ingong was divided into several realms. This weakness was exploited by enemies who gradually conquered the lands. Many people fled or perished.

Ingong recognized the danger and acted swiftly. He sought allies and prepared his kingdom for war. One of his oldest friends sent his son, Nonzong, as support. Upon his arrival, Nonzong was welcomed with great ceremony, and Ingong called for unity and resistance. Despite the looming threat, they celebrated their freedom that evening with a ritual feast.

However, during the celebration, Nonzong was overcome with homesickness. He thought of his homeland—the vast steppes and his family. While taking a walk, driven by longing, he heard voices. He overheard a group of conspirators who opposed Ingong's plans. Fearing the war, they sought to resist him.

Nonzong was uncertain—were they plotting a coup?
